MILLBROOK

This bustling old Cornish village is situated at the end of the Tamar Valley. A creek from the River Tamar now forms a large lake on the edge of the village and attracts many varieties of water birds. The small islands & reeds along the banks provide breeding areas for swans & mallards. Grebes and egrets are also regular visitors.

The village provides good facilities with both Co-op and Spar stores,  Link ATM, Post Office, fruit & veg shop, chemist, newsagent and petrol garage. There are a couple of pubs, both of which serve food. The fish & chip shop not only does very good take away, but also offers a restaurant serving homemade dishes to suit all tastes. There are numerous footpaths to take you across the beautiful countryside and the views are spectacular. There are always activities going on all the villages such as coffee mornings & craft fairs. Look out for posters and join in the fun & support the local community. Cawsand have a Cornish Pilot Gig Club - go along & have a row - its good fun but not as easy as it looks!

Just down the road...

The Rame Peninsula is known as the Forgotten Corner. It's easy to see why with its unspoilt beauty around every corner. Just 1 mile along the road, the twin fishing villages of Kingsand & Cawsand nestle in the bay of Plymouth Sound. There are 3 beaches here with a mixture of fine sand & shingle. All are safe, secluded and ideal for relaxing, sunbathing, swimming and keeping an eye on the kids! The rocks that stretch out along the bay provide pools teeming with shrimps, crabs, fishes as well as sea anemones, hermit crabs & limpets - hours of fun for children of all ages. There are several pubs in the villages, each serving good food - especially fish dishes. The 2 cafes in Kingsand are ideal places to have a coffee and lobster salad or a Cream Tea. There are 2 car parks.

The South West Coastal Path passes through here. Walk out to Penlee Point and round to Whitsand Bay or go along the Minnadhu to Mount Edgecumbe Park. The dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches of Whitsand Bay offer good facilities for walking, bathing and surfing.

Mount Edgecumbe Country Park borders Millbrook and offers beautiful gardens, old woodlands with huge Rhododendron trees, a fine house steeped in history and one of the country's largest Camellia collections. A 'must-see' during the Spring months!

A passenger ferry can be boarded here, at Cremyll that will take you in to Stonehouse & a short bus ride on into the City. Another small and very popular ferry operates from Cawsand Beach (April - October) and will to take you to the Mayflower Steps in the heart of Plymouths Barbican area, near the Hoe. This is ideal if you want to visit the excellent Aquarium. The city of Plymouth (only 7 miles from Millbrook) has good shopping facilities, restaurants & theatres as well as many historical features and museums.

The choice of places to visit, attractions and things to do are endless & too many to mention here. This is just a few; Eden Project; St Ives; Padstow; Looe (sea fishing), Polperro; Lostwithiel; Boscastle; Dartmoor National Park & Bodmin; steam railways; seal & donkey sanctuaries; Yarg cheese farm; surfing & bathing beaches of Polzeath, Watergate Bay and Perranporth…..
